The owners, intent on aging in place, required a first floor primary suite addition to the existing two-story four-square house. The home is located along a tree lined Scenic Parkway. Various design strategies were explored including radically contemporary attachments that stood in contrast to the original and more seamless, though lackluster, traditional schemes. The final design strategy was to work with the existing front porch and extend the roofline completely though the existing house to form the roof of the new primary suite. A void in the composition forms a protected patio deck. This new low pitch roof allows the second floor windows to remain unobstructed.
